Parade of Rainbow Pies and Affirming Connections PIE Day Video Showing

Event Description:

Homemade pies made by our very own congregation (a few very generous people with amazing baking skills) will be served following our Sunday Service in the Sanctuary along with a viewing of the PIE Day Video. Please come to our service at 10:30 or come after the service for PIE about 11:30!

Calgary Rainbow Railroad Stations Benefit Concert with Resource Fair and Silent Auction

Event Description:

A concert of music from LGBTQ2+ community, faith communities and friends. Choral music, classical guitar, piano trio, singer-songwriter, and much else. A fundraiser for LGBTQ2+ refugees. The fair will include information and resources from our communities. Refreshments based on the PIE theme!

National Affirming Day Celebration

Open Mic Night & Clothing Exchange

In celebration of P.I.E. Day, we are thrilled to present Open Mic Night & Clothing Exchange. And what a better way to celebrate than over homemade pie!

We we excited to welcome Shane Onyou as our MC for the evening, who is also going to perform for us! We are in for a treat, that's for sure!

All performers are celebrated! Whatever you feel like expressing, the mic is open to you! Singing, dancing, spoken word, poetry, music... the opportunities are endless.

If you have clothes that you no longer wear and would like to exchange them to freshen up your wardrobe, bring them along. All expressions of fashion are welcome.

National Affirming P.I.E. Day PIE Making Party!

PIE Worship & Coffee Time

During each of our Sunday morning worship services we will be doing a rainbow sand liturgy to create some additional Affirm symbols for each sanctuary. We will have a presentation on gender and sexuality vocabulary. One of our young people will present her answer to a question that was posed to her "How can you be Christian and be an Ally".

More and more churches are choosing to publicly say: God welcomes all. That all forms of gender expression and sexual orientation are holy and included in the love of Christ.

Many churches desire to be a safe place for the Queer community, but what does that really mean? How do we create a truly affirming church?

Whether you are a church leader or just interested in this conversation, you are invited to a day of learning and conversation with Queer Christians and other affirming churches as we explore this question. Come with an open heart, a curious mind, and a creative spirit as we listen for how the Spirit is moving us beyond binaries.

PIE day visit with gift of pies for the Gilbert Center

Bake a pie and join others from our church and the other United Churches in Barrie that are Affirming as we visit and thank the Gilbert Center with the gifts of pies for their work in the community. The Gilbert Centre, on Bradford St., is a community-based, not-for-profit, charitable organization that has been providing programs and services in Simcoe Muskoka for over 25 years for individuals and families from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) communities. The beginnings of the Gilbert Center started when Ed Gilbert was a member at Burton Ave United.

At a regional level instead of hosting an event in Shining Waters Regional Council we've chosen to go out and share some pie as an offering of gratitude for community work. We've identified a few places where we can take a pie along with our thanks. We will share pictures at the end of the day.

Our Potluck Luncheon is a celebration and an update from our Affirm Team. The Congregation is asked to bring a main course item to share. We will bring the PIE.

Come for a community event that will start at 6pm with displays from community organizations and fair-like activities (photo booth, PIE mingle bingo, pie throwing) followed at 7pm with acknowledgement of the land by Elder Lorna Standingready, Pie, and a coffee House featuring quiet stories and performers.

Event Description:

Join us on March 14th at 7:00PM in the Lounge and Court at St. Andrew's United Church for food and fellowship as we gather together to celebrate LGBTQ2SIA+ inclusion. There will be a movie called "PRIDE" with popcorn and beverages during the show, and freshly baked PIE served at intermission.

All funds from the silver collection will be donated to our Mission and Service fund.

We ask that you use the West side parking lot entrance.

Affirming PIE Day 2019!

Event Description:

Welcome and pie eating; local celebrities debate: What is the best kind of pie?; presentations from Out Saskatoon and U of S Pride Centre; community conversation on how churches can better support LGBTQ2IA community; pie auction; fundraiser for Pride House; Yann Martel present and giving away a signed copy of his book, "Life of Pi". This event is hosted by UCC Affirming Ministries but is an ecumenical and community event.
