About
National Affirming/PIE Day was co-founded by Affirm United/S’affirmer Ensemble and Affirming Connections to set aside a special day every year to celebrate the full inclusion of 2SLGBTQIA+ people in faith communities and beyond! This day also reminds us and challenges us to continue widening our welcome and to embody love and celebrate gender and sexual diversity in all its forms through the concepts of PIE Day.
Why call it PIE Day?
Pie = Deliciousness!
Pi = Ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. The result: an infinite number, starting with 3.14.
PIE = One way of measuring how inclusive we are to Two Spirit and LGBTQIA+ people.
Public. Intentional. Explicit.
Pi Day = March 14: 3.14

Affirm United/S’affirmer Ensemble
Affirm United is a national organization that works for the full inclusion of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities in the United Church of Canada and in society. We draw strength and hope from biblical stories of liberation; from the prophetic call to live justly, love tenderly, and walk humbly with God; and from Jesus’ witness to God’s inclusive love.
We’re a voice and a support for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities, and we help ministries become truly welcoming safer sacred spaces through our Affirming ministries program. Membership and participation are open to people of all gender identities and sexualities.
Affirming Connections
Affirming Connections strengthens and amplifies the voices and actions of fully inclusive faith communities and individuals. With expertise in the complex intersections of queerness and faith, we offer educational programming, advocacy events, leadership support, and theological resources to meet the unique needs of the communities we serve. Visit our resource page for more information on these intersections.
We engage in the public square alongside 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, allies, and community organizations to advocate for spaces of true belonging that affirm the dignity and protect the rights of all 2SLGBTQIA+ people. We also offer accessible education for faith communities, because inclusion is not optional - it is life-saving and essential for a thriving, diverse society.
