Join us for our annual regional celebration of PIE Day! This special PIE Day Queer Worship centres the experience of the 2SLGBTQIAP+ community, and celebrates the sacred found in queer lives, queer joy and queer liberation. This service is made for the 2SLGBTQIAP+ community and our allies, it is made and offered by queer folks, and it is made to nourish queer spirituality in all of us. Our Pie Day event is taking place after service. We are currently working to restart and reconnect with our AFFIRM Community and get our church committee active again.

We will be making announcements at the Service that we will be service Pie and have an information table to give members and visitors what PIE DAY MEANS AND REPRESENTS and also sign up members of our AFFIRM COMMITTEE

We will also have a person who will be wearing a blowup HEART COSTUME to show all that LOVE WINS ALWAYS.

During the Pride focus worship service, the Apology to the Church will be read out loud and the message time that follows will speak to the work that continues to be ours to do in regard to being an affirming community of faith.

Sunday, March 15 at 10 AM at Woodcliff United Church marks the celebration of P.I.E. Day. PIE stands for Public, Intentional, and Explicit — affirming the full inclusion of LGBTQIA+ and Two-Spirit people in faith communities and beyond. Sonya Taylor (they/them) is co-pastor of Open Way Community Church. They are a queer, disabled, chronically ill white settler living on unceded Coast Salish land with their partner, Lori, and their senior calico cat, Alice (who definitely runs the household). A lifelong Bible nerd, Sonya loves exploring fresh ways of understanding Scripture through the lens of justice and liberation, centering perspectives too often left out of the conversation. Originally from England and raised on ’90s Britpop, Sonya is fueled by Yorkshire tea, digestive biscuits, and a respectable amount of Marmite. In their spare time, they enjoy building LEGO, photographing graffiti and street art, and getting happily covered in sawdust while woodworking.

Celebrate P.I.E. Day with the Waterloo campus community! This "get together" is a social event featuring pizza, hangouts, and (of course) plenty of pie. It is an inclusive space designed to bring students and community members together for food and conversation.

This day is a national celebration of the full inclusion and affirmation of 2SLGBTQIA+ and Two-Spirit people within faith communities. The event serves as a visible commitment to creating "safer sacred spaces" where everyone is welcome exactly as they are.

We use the acronym PIE because it's easy to remember and stands for Public, Intentional, and Explicit: the standard for an affirming welcome of Two Spirit and LGBTQIA+ people. It is an Affirming twist to International Pi Day celebrations on 3.14, March 14, every year and we think it fits with the theme that Love is a circle, irrational, inclusive, and infinite.

TMUC's third P.I.E. Day event is hosted by our Outreach Team. It will be held at Transcona Memorial United Church at 209 Yale Avenue West in Winnipeg. This year, our event will take place as a lunchtime event. Pie is on the menu! Tickets are $12.00. The proceeds will be donated to Sunshine House. To celebrate our public, intentional, explicit commitment to celebrating 2SLGBTQIA+ storytelling, ScarboroArts have booked tickets to an Alberta Theatre Projects performance this spring, just in time for PIE Day!

On Friday, March 13 we have tickets to attend the 7 p.m. showtime of Casey & Diana a moving drama by Nick Green inspired by Princess Diana’s 1991 visit to Casey House, Canada’s first free-standing AIDS hospice; suggested for ages 14+.

A limited number of tickets have been purchased, and are available from the Scarboro United Church office at the reduced group rate of $59, contact Laura to reserve your tickets.

Also, there will be the option to come together for pre-show pie for supper at the church, conversation, and carpooling downtown to the Arts Commons.
