This year for PIE day Robertson-Wesley United Church is partnering with Kirk Centre to kick off a series of events designed to create a safe learning space for all seeking understanding across a variety of targeted 2SLGBTQIA related topics. The aim of all of these events is to make public spaces more inviting and explicitly welcoming and safe for the queer community in Edmonton.
Starting on March 13 and then again April 10 and May 8, the evenings will begin with a presentation by the 'human resource book' aka an individual or two who has lived experience of a particular topic area. They will present briefly on the topic and follow up with a moderated Q&A session during which attendees are invited to ask any and all questions pertaining to the topic to learn more. This is a place for the questions one might be nervous about or avoid asking a friend or family member or other person in society. Once all the topical questions have been answered, refreshments will be brought out and conversation around tables will help build connection, community and further dialogue for understanding and solidifying new learnings.
These events are suitable for all ages (15 or younger must have adult accompaniment) and will be as accessible as possible.
